The quiet Alpine village of Spinges/Spinga offers tranquil holidays amidst beautiful meadows and dairies. Located at an altitude of 1,105m, its valley is bordered with the Eiscack/Isarco River and Valler Stream. Here, time seems to stand still. Despite this, the village of Spinga has a moving past. It was first documented in 1174, when Bishop Henry of Brixen died and donated the cathedral chapter to the parish of Spinga. It therefore became an important spiritual place in the Middle Ages. The last time it entered history books was during the Napoleonic Wars when Katharina Lanz, the heroine of Spinges fought in the anti-Napoleonic Tyrolean Independence War. At the time the Tyroleans nicknamed her "the Brave Maiden of Spinges". Today however, the village still retains its calm and peaceful lifestyle and offers interested visitors a closer look at unspoiled nature - the innate charm of the Spingeser Alm mountain pasture, the gracefulness of the extended Larch woods, the forest full of historic tales... and a breathtaking view of the mountains, valleys and surrounding villages. |
